Groveland Rotary’s Annual Schrimp Fest

ROTARY NEWS by Ron Smith

IMG_5677The Groveland Rotary held their annual all-you-can eat Shrimp and Sausage Feed on Saturday, August 26 and it was a big success. We would like to thank everyone who supported our annual event. It was a very warm afternoon/evening event but we made it work even though our body temperatures may have risen a bit!

This event supports Rotary’s many local community projects such as “Shoes for Kids”, the “Easter Egg Hunt”, dictionaries for third-qrade students, cleaning the highway, scholarships, etc. Without your support we would not be able to fund these projects.

Many comments were heard about the Shrimp Fest being one of the best ever. We would have to agree! Heartfelt thanks to all Rotarians and others who participated and to our local youth who were a tremendous help in serving the food. Particular kudos to Greg Cramblit, Paul Burkett, Sharon Hunt and Karen Seals. They handled the shopping for the food, getting the auction items donated and serving the food. All other participants did an equally outstanding job but there are too many of them to mention. Oops, almost forgot to mention all the “younger” men who did the heavy lifting in setup and cleaning. Without them this event would have not been possible. Thanks so very much again to everyone!

Please consider joining us next year for this event. We guarantee you will enjoy it!

Scholarship awards evening at Tioga High

May 26 2017 was an important day for the Tioga High Seniors. Groveland Rotary awarded four Scholarships of $1500.00 each, record awards giving by the Groveland Rotary! The recipients were Austin Pruitt, Curtis Zwinge, Ian T Campbell and Michael Ridgley. Our interview team consisting out of Rudy Manzo, Jim Thayer, Wayne Phillips and Herman Schaap, talked to 11 students and it was difficult to make a choice, we found that all applicants were worthy of a Rotary Scholarship. Principal Ryan Dutton and Secretary Cindy Green did an outstanding job MC-ing the evening. Tioga High can be proud of the quality students they “produce”!
We wish all the students good luck in their future endeavors.
